			<description>       Contact: Toni Moore                               Extension: 7079   Asthma Awareness Day set for Saturday, May 16,  at Bergfeld Park in Tyler     Free health screenings and fun activities are the focus of Asthma Awareness Day, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Bergfeld Park in Tyler.   The event is sponsored by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler and the East Texas Asthma Coalition.    Asthma is a chronic lung disease that affects about 300 million people worldwide, according to the National Institutes of Health. In the United States, more than 22 million people have asthma. Almost 7 million of those are children under the age of 6.   Each year in the United States, asthma causes about 13 million missed school days for children and 10 million missed work days for adults, the NIH says.
